All things are quite silent, each mortal at rest, When me and my true love lay snug in one nest, When a bold set of ruffians broke into our cave, And they forced my dear jewel to plough the salt wave. Through green fields and meadows we oft times have walked, And sweet conversation of love we have talked, With the birds in the woodland so sweetly did sing, And the lovely thrushes' voices made the valleys to ring.

about

The Saxophonist and Composer Elisabetta (Betty) Accorsi is delighted to present her debut jazz album The Cutty Sark Suite as CDs and online on Bandcamp with 3 original compositions and one arrangement inspired by the Cutty Sark ship’s journey from China to London.

The album was recorded at Goldsmiths Music Studio on the 9th September 2020 with the incredibly talented musicians Finn Carter (piano), Andy Hamill (double and electric bass) and Scott Macdonald (drums). The recording session was engineered by Francesca Edwards and Amelia Lawn, and the album produced and mixed by Andrea Martelloni.

The album is all instrumental except for the last song All Things are quite Silent. The aim was to guide the listener into the return journey of the English clipper Cutty Sark from China to London, combining folk elements with jazz and sometimes punk music. The journey starts in Shanghai (China) with The Golden Wave, an inspiration from the traditional Chinese instrument Erhu that evolves into a jazz ballad and then into a sort of punk-blues. The second track is In Between and it is inspired by Indonesia Gamelan music with the main part changing into a jazz “ballad” tribute to Jaco Pastorius. The third stop is in South Africa with the piece At the Edge of the Wave inspired by warrior Zulu dances for the first and last part and to the saxophonist Basil Coetzee for the funky part in the middle. The last song is a jazz arrangement of the traditional English folk song All Things Are Quite Silent speaking about a woman whose man is forced to be a soldier of the English Navy. It ends with a sort of jazz samba feel, paying tribute to the force of the Ocean.
