about

Before writing this song, I listened to traditional Chinese music, particularly the repertoire for the Erhu. The Erhu is a two-stringed bowed instrument of Mongolian origin, introduced into China during the Song dynasty (960-1279) and now one of the most popular instruments in the Country. The melody, played by the bass, is based on the pentatonic scale and it is inspired by the fluidity of the Erhu. I combined this inspiration with the jazz form, particularly in the swing improvisation that follows the melody. After it, the melody is played again, leaving room to a more bluesy part where the mood becomes more akin to blues or rock. At the end the melody is presented again by the piano.
